On the first day of school, I wanted to do something fun to challenge my students. On the outside of my window I put a challenging math problem for students to see before they came in with “Tell Mr. Blalock for Candy” written below. The first day many looked, but no one answered until after school a group of students came in and we went over the solution. The next day, a new problem, and some new students. It started to grow a following to up to 15-20 students a day trying to solve it and even coming in before school to help me create new problems. It’s been a pleasure building new problems and having students think deeper about mathematics and I hope that you will consider creating your own at your own school.
